Juvenile Bald Eagle

A juvenile Bald Eagle sits, poops, and flies.

This Bald Eagle is one to two years old. It had been hunting from a perch for a while.

In preparation for flying, the eagle lightens its load by pooping.

And then it flies off.

Now, that’s not something you see every day!

The kind of photos a pro like you get, when the bird’s wings are at high mast, are so interesting!!

On another note, today in lower Kaslo, near the river, standing outside with the friend I was visiting, we were “caught” by the sound of an unusually high pitched repetitive cry of an Osprey, whom we watched soar higher & higher (far from river or lake, while not stopping its cry) until it had made a complete loop back to where we’d first heard, then sited. It finally stopped vocalizing, when it reached a height to float on the updrafts. We both wondered at its cry…was it just expressing its joy to be alive and able to fly…certainly wasn’t fishing! Any ideas, or has anyone observed similar flight behaviour? I know I’m sounding anthropomorphic but just can’t help trying to imagine from my point of view what the Osprey was feeling, doing!!

Karen, I’ve also heard the osprey joyfully singing a lot recently on the Little Slocan, sometimes closer to the river, and sometimes behind me, in the forest. Yes! Unlike us, birds and animals don’t have a worrying mind. They know how to express joy in the moment, and don’t care who hears them!
