Folks to the north and south of me have already seen their first hummingbirds of the year. Indeed, for the last week, I too have seen some, but this is the first one I managed to photograph.

time to put out the feeder
Once again a most marvelous photo. I have a neighbour that has no computer, but comes over to my place to view your posts. She is just as awed by your photos as I am. Thanks for the beauty you bring to us.
Anita, I have taken many shots of our hummingbirds (we regularly get three species). Usually, I try to have the bird fill most of the image. This time I really liked the contrast between a nearly monochromatic patterned background of trees and the colourful bird, so I included more of the surroundings in the picture.
