Each of my handful of sightings of the Red Crossbill has, unexpectedly, been incidental to watching grizzly bears. While the most recent shots of crossbills are not as detailed as those of an earlier occasion, the pattern of seeing them while scouting for grizzlies remains. I cannot imagine that this pattern will be sustained, but it has produced an odd coincidence.
These are a few of the many Red Crossbills seen filling a tree adjacent to grizzlies.
They enabled me to alternately photograph crossbill and grizzly.
Sensational, again!
Many thanks Alistair for sharing your pictures with us. I love receiving your glimpses of nature Up there.
When you live high above the ground in a tower surrounded by a million people, and have reached the stage where you can no longer get out and about it means so much to see what you are seeing in your surroundings.
I can’t imagine the time and patience required by you to get these wonderful shots, plus your knowledge of the wild life .
I enjoy having your picture of a few years ago on my desk top, of spawning Kokane, which my daughter made a tapestry of. Many thanks.
Margaret, only for short periods have I ever lived among hordes in a glass erection. While I am able to take delight in every situation, I clearly prefer my present world betwixt forest and lake where the gentle hordes are of wildlife. Were decrepitude to force me to return to Sauron’s Dark Tower of Barad-dûr, I suspect that relief would be sought with cloudscapes.
Fabulous photo of the grizzly. I love bears at a distance. Evidently one was on my back deck last night, politely quiet and did not wake me. The best kind…unless you are a photographer.
