Hummingbirds, two

There have been spotty observations of hummingbirds around the region for a couple of weeks, but it wasn’t until yesterday that visits became frequent enough and weather became good enough that I managed pictures. Unexpectedly, there were two different species: Calliope and Rufous. Both were males.

The Calliope is our smallest hummingbird.

The Rufous is a bit larger and amazingly scrappy.

Have been worried by lack of birds of any kind in my yard except for a daily visit from a flicker who likes the suet.
Have seen only 1 hummingbird who “buzzed” me last week. A beautiful ruby red.

The hummers have shown up in Chase, at our station anyways. A Rufous and a Ruby are duking it out over rights. They appeared to get along to start but it is all out war this morning.
