Windows are a potential hazard for birds.
Many birds hang around my home: hunting, feeding, nesting, and squabbling. Yet, collisions with my windows are remarkably rare. When it happens, the window usually displays an indistinguishable smudge.
The smudge was not indistinguishable from the collision shown below. Fortunately, the bird, itself, survived, but I cannot say whether it had a headache.
That is a remarkable photo Alastair! It breaks my heart when birds collide with the windows. I finally got some plastic garden fine mesh and put it over the windows in such a way that there was a couple of inches between the mesh and the glass. I haven’t had a damaged/dead bird since! It works just like a trampoline!
This is a hot issue around the Kootenay houses. Thank you Alistair for bringing it up and thank you A. Ireland for an excellent idea. I believe that our “window-winterization” will include the trampoline. Thanks.
