Dipper

This is not how I woud choose to make a living: stand in an icy and turbulent mountain creek while attempting to catch delectables in the water, but this unusual songbird does just that. Hmm, come to think of it, that is roughly how many fly fishermen operate.

Every one of your great photos make me want to get up, walk outside and look around.

Yes, I agree Larry. There is inexhaustible beauty at every eye’s brink, if we just truly look. And the looking will feed looking till the eye is stuck at wonder.

I can watch these guys forever. They are not affected by cold water, weather or anything else they are not aware of. I know they don’t like to be watched but then they are so enthralled with walking on and under water that they rarely pay attention to an audience.

Bill, you are right: these are frenetic birds. My picture gives the impression that the dipper was contemplative. Yet, that is a bit misleading for the dipper was bobbing around in the water with almost the same vigour as was the creek itself. Captured was one frozen moment.
