I observed two animals both of which we have given the name, goat. They were taken only about 30 km apart, although a few years separate them.
Yesterday’s animal was a domesticated angora goat of the genus Capra, which is (appropriately) the genus of goats.

Thirty kilometres from there, I had also photographed what we have called a mountain goat. But, it is in actually in the genus, Oreamnos, which means that it is closer to the antelopes. Apparently there aren’t any true wild goats around here, but we do have this cool animal we call a mountain goat.

What wonderful photos. They actually look like they were posing for you!
That’s really interesting. I looked into it further and our mountain “goats” are also closely related to cows, sheep, and bison. Meanwhile, our pronghorn “antelope” are neither and are the last surviving member of their own genus. Nature is endlessly fascinating.
