Mountain Bluebird

Mountain Bluebirds turn up in March. But, just try to get a picture this early in the season.

A Mountain Bluebird hunts from a fence post for insects, something still difficult to find.

From its perch, it headed out and caught something.

While watching bluebirds, another hunter was spotted: a raven flying by carrying a vole.

Oh that blue…even on St. Patrick’s day! Thanks, Alistair

That blue bird is really stunning – I don’t think I’ve ever seen one around here. Are they pretty rare?

I saw one about 20 years ago in Kokanee Creek Park. Truly an amazing sight.

  4. Thanks Alistair

Bluebirds are localized with us too and not often seen. I think this spring I’ll set up a wooden fence post in the meadow, on the off chance I’ll see a bluebird perching there some day.
